On the Painting Tray: June 2011

During May I managed to finish Beth's Stuka and a dozen Crusader Miniatures unarmoured Roman Cavalry for my Punic Wars army; photos will follow once I've found time to take them.  This month, I'm hoping to paint a dozen Navigator Miniatures Parthian Cataphracts I promised to Willie.  I also have on order half of the horses I need for a load of 1st Corps Gallic/German riders I bought dirt cheap second hand at Carronade.  They'll help with the Galatian contingent for the big Magnesia game at Claymore this August.

  1. Good luck with the plan! I'm useless and can never stick to any plan I make, so I do what i can do!!

  2. Hi Ray, I know what you mean. I try to plan for roughly half of what I think I could do in a good month. Anything else is an added bonus, plus it makes me feel smug. The best I could manage is probably 48 25mm infantry, half that in cavalry, but it can be pushing it to get that many done. So I aim for 24 foot or 12 horse. Planning for a big game helps to keep the focus as well, because then I know other folks are kind of relying on me - nothing like a bit of peer pressure!

    Cheers

  4. Since I set myself the challange of painting-a-minaiture-a-day (on average over the course of a month so not literally every day) I've noticed my painting count go up considerably. Especially when you set yourself the challange on the blogsphere. Even if no-one else really cares if you keep to the challange or not, it still feels like failure if you don't reach that monthly target.
For me, that's a great incentive to paint.

  5. Hi Brian, you're right, it does help. It can seem a bit artificial, but anything that keeps the momentum going can only be a good thing. Are you going to be at Claymore? Kingsleypark will by the looks of it; it would be good to meet people in real life.

One thing I'd love to do is a decent set of tabletop terrain for Magnesia. I know how I want to do it, but at the moment I don't have the time or the budget!
